Resident Associates :: Kevin MacKenzie & Cory Rogge
My name is Kevin MacKenzie. Cory and I are the resident associates who live in the first floor apartment next to the elevator, along with our cat Mokume.
I have been an assistant professor in Biochemistry and Cell Biology at Rice since the fall of 2000, when I first became an associate of Brown College. When I arrived in mid-semester, I was warmly welcomed by the Brown community and immediately felt at home.
Cory and I met in graduate school at Yale where we played hockey together. Cory's academic career led her to take her pads and skates on the road to Boston, MA and then Madison, WI. After developing an allergic reaction to yellow cheese hats and bratwurst, Cory moved to Houston over the summer of 2002 and now works at the Texas Medical Center as a Research Associate in the Department of Hematology. (Ask her how aspirin works, but only if you're ready to get technical.)
Mokume (the cat) agreed to provide some impartial observations about us:
"Kevin grew up in Canada and lived in an igloo until his family skied to the big city so he could attend school. Kevin misses winter and seal blubber but compensates by saying 'Eh' a lot, teaching people to swear in Quebecois, and ea ting sushi (but not SHARING!)."
"Cory was born in Tucson but was lost during the family move to Phoenix and was raised for several years by a pack of coyotes. She has largely overcome this early canine influence, except for her horrible taste in professional hockey teams. Her interest in Egyptology leads me to hope that she will revive the worship of cats in modern society, although the mummification stuff should be dropped."
There you have it, straight from the cat's mouth.
