About O-Week

Arguably one of the best weeks of your Rice career, Orientation Week (O-Week) exposes you to the variety and diversity of Rice while trying to make the transition as smooth as possible. From academic advising to meeting your peers at your college, O-Week introduces the important, and even trivial, aspects of being an undergrad at Rice.

Much of O-Week is spent in the company of your O-Week group, a randomly assembled group of about seven other new students at Brown who will become an instant support network for you. Three upperclassmen Advisors, two from Brown and one from another college, lead the group and facilitate all the events and activities planned for the week.

From scavenger hunts around Houston to late night runs to Taco Cabana, the week's activities also include the practical aspects of getting situated: setting up a bank account, stocking up at Target on things you forgot to bring, and finding your way across campus. Finally, your Advisors and O-Week Coordinators will teach you about numerous Rice and Brown traditions like Beer Bike, birthdays in the fairy fountain, and Brown Day. By the end of the week, you will know most of the new students at Brown, making it seem as though you've always been at Rice.

In addition to officially matriculating and signing up for classes, you will be exposed to one of Rice's more unique aspects: jacking other colleges. Through original, clever, and non-destructive pranks (jacks), you and your Advisors can underscore Brown's undisputable superiority and dominance. So come prepared for an unforgettable week of excitement, transition, and exploring college life; and store up on your sleep!
